I can't understand why bars are too dangerous to stay open but it's safe to open schools.

Well maybe it's because bars are apparently safe enough to be open until 10 p.m. and school ends way earlier than that so...... ??? I don't know. The logic evades me. I just read this quite alarming piece about Belgium from yesterday: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/belgium-covid-hospitals-schools/2020/10/23/85358010-14a9-11eb-a258-614acf2b906d_story.html

I think basically we need to heed our public health officials and avoid that kind of nightmare scenario. And our public health officials say a 5% case positivity rate will make for a safe school reopening. We are decidedly NOT there, nor trending in that direction.

I doubt CPS will open.

Excellent and clear collection of data, thanks. Why CPS isn’t being more forthright with these issues? can be inferred. It’s a sad situation.

Thanks for reading and commenting! What CPS initially stated but is now leaving out of its correspondence to families is that they were committed to following the guidance of the CDPH, which recommends opening schools with a citywide 5% test positivity rate. Yes, a sad and bad situation, not at all helped by this obfuscation. What we need right now is transparency.
